Benefits of Massage

As a massage therapist I get many different questions about massage and what it can do for you. Unfortunately the a vast part of the population still thinks its nothing more than a luxury. I am here to tell you that it is not. Ok, well, it definitely feels like a luxury because it is certainly better than going to the doctor, but the wonderful thing is that there are so many benefits! There are many long term & short term benefits to massage. The list below effects you after just 1 massage! JUST ONE!

Ok here we go:
  • Aleviates muscle tension & soreness
  • Fosters faster healing of tissue and ligaments
  • Increased blood circulation
  • Eliminates toxins & waste
  • Reduces blood pressure
  • Helps anxiety & depression
  • Increases range of motion
  • Decreases Insomnia
  • Aids in stress relief and relaxation
  • Promotes deeper & easier breathing
  • Increases white blood cells (the ones that fight infection)
  • Boosts immunity
  • Calms the pain of migraines or headaches

The list goes on, but these are just some of the imediate effects on the body. It is recommended to get 60 minutes of massage at a minimum of once a month for overal health and preventative. If you have injuries or specific disorders such as fibromyalgia or sciatica it can vary according to the intensity and pain.
One of the issues I run in to is that it is hard to get massage covered on insurance. If you are not covered then it can seem a bit expensive. Here is how I look at it. If you are willing to put up the dough you are potentially saving tons of money on doctors visits, prescriptions, & medical bills as massage acts as a preventative to future health issues. I have personally helped people reduce their medications such as Blood Pressure & Anxiety as well as prolonged or reduced the need for surgery. You can not put a price on health and there are places you can go to get a cheap massage, but in my experience you get what you pay for.

What price would you pay for your health?
Besides, I have never heard a client dread a massage as they would a visit to the doctors office.
If you ask me, I pick the massage hands down.
